Brief History

Handmaids of the Child Jesus (HHCJ) is a Catholic Indigenous Religious Congregation founded by Mary Charles Magdalene Walker (RSC) that has served Nigeria and beyond in various capacities. In the capacity of education, the congregation has established and managed successful schools that provide a holistic actualization of the individual talents in different parts of the world as a whole and in Nigeria in particular. In Abuja, the congregation has the same objective to provide sound, moral and intellectual development of the youth for a better future.

Although the founding of a girls’ secondary school in Abuja by Handmaids was on for a long time by both the Superiors General of the Congregation and Provincial Superiors of North Western Province, the sole purpose was to continue the vision of our foundress who had the zeal for evangelization through the education of girls, women and children for self- reliance and to serve the society.
